Bishop Thomas Wenski attended St. John Vianney Minor
Seminary in Miami for his high school education and to
earn his Associates of Art Degree. He earned a Bachelors
of Art Degree in Philosophy from St. Vincent de Paul
Seminary in Boynton Beach where he also earned a
Master’s of Divinity Degree. He speaks English, Haitian
Creole, Spanish and some Polish.
Bishop Wenski was ordained a priest on May 16, 1976 for
the Archdiocese of Miami and was assigned as Associate
Pastor of Corpus Christi Church in Miami until 1979. He
had a summer assignment in Haitian missions in 1979 and
was assigned Associate Director of Haitian Apostolate
for the Archdiocese of Miami. In January 1979, he was
assigned as the Director of Haitian Apostolate and
Pastor of Notre-Dame d’Haiti Church until 1998. He was
also the Pastor of St. Joseph Haitian Mission in
Pompano, Pastor of Divine Mercy Haitian Mission in Ft.
Lauderdale, Director of the Archdiocese of Miami’s
Ministry to Cultural Groups, and the Director of Creole
language Radio Programming for the Archdiocese of Miami.
From 1981 to 1989, he served as Editor of Lavwa Katolik
and from 1991 to 1997, he served as an ATT Translator
for Creole-English, English-Creole. In 1994 he was an
adjunct professor at St. Vincent de Paul Seminary.
Since 1996, Bishop Wenski has served as the
Archdiocesan Director of Catholic Charities of the
Archdiocese of Miami, Catholic Relief Services, Campaign
for Human Development, Disaster Relief, and
Resettlement. He is an ex-officio member of the Presbyterial Council and a member of the Board of
Catholic Health Services. He has served on the Board for
the Catholic Community Services, Inc., Board of Trustee
of the Catholic Child Welfare Trust, Board of Trustees
of the Catholic Family and Children’s Services Trust of
Broward, Archdiocese of Miami Representative and Member of the Board of
Directors of the Florida Community Loan Fund,
Archbishop’s Representative to the Greater Miami
Religious Leaders Coalition, Archbishop’s Representative
to the Board of Genesis, Executive Director of the
Catholic Commission for Social Advocacy, Board of
Trustees of the Catholic Family and Children’s Services,
and National Representative for the Haitian Community.
He serves on the Board of Holy Cross Hospital, Catholic
Hospice, Human Rights Institute of St. Thomas
University, and on the Board of Trustees for St. Thomas
University.
Bishop Thomas Wenski was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of
the Archdiocese of Miami on September 3, 1997. He serves
as Episcopal Moderator to the Florida Catholic
Conference Health Affairs Advisory Commission. |
