The following are key events in the early days of the FCCAP, according to the dissertation of D. Michael McCarron, Ph.D., FCC Executive Director (from his Chapter "Coming of Age 1968-75").

  • Establishment of the Florida Catholic Conference (FCC), Feb. 1, 1969;

  • Catholic school superintendents in Florida discuss the development of accreditation standards, June 1, 1969;

  • Florida Bishops meet to identify the purposes of the accreditation program (the original mandate was to reduce class size, value teacher certification and make general improvement in schools), August 1969;

  • Florida educational leaders research the standards from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and other information sources as a starting point for Catholic schools, Fall 2009;

  • The Florida Bishops accept the accreditation procedures developed in a collaborative way by Catholic educational leaders, April 1970.

  • The first set of schools begin self-studies, 1970-1971 school year.

  • The first "pioneer" schools host on-site visitations and receive initial FCCAP accreditation.
