Sister Joan Dawson, O.S.F. serves as the Superintendent
of Schools for the Diocese of Palm Beach. As
Superintendent, she is responsible for the overall
administration of the schools in the Diocese and
provides leadership, coordination, and service in order
to facilitate the educational mission in 3 secondary
schools, 17 elementary schools, and 2 preschools.
She
is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, New
York, and has served in high schools in New York, New
Jersey, and Florida as an English teacher, Media
Specialist, and Administrator. She has also served as
Superintendent of Schools in the Diocese of St.
Petersburg for 12 years and has served as Superintendent
in the Diocese of Palm Beach for a number of years.
Sr. Joan has served as Chairperson of the FCC
Accreditation Committee and a special ad hoc
committee on the revision of FCC standards and
self-study process. She is also a member of the FCC
Schools Executive Committee.
For more than 20 years, Sr. Joan has served as both a
SACS and an FCC Chair of Peer Review Visiting Teams and
has conducted training for the School Improvement
Process for the Florida Catholic Conference. She
has earned a B.A. in English from St.
Bonaventure University, NY; a MA in English from Notre
Dame University, IN; and an Ed.D. in Educational
Leadership from Wayne State University in Detroit.
