WOMEN’S HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT

Please vote YES

HB 1223 (Representatives Kilmer and Bean)

Passage means greater protection for the health and safety of women

For women who make the choice of abortion, this bill will protect their health and raise the level of safety to be similar to procedures of other comparable surgical procedures.  The State of Florida has different standards of care for women who undergo an abortion than women who undergo other types of surgical procedures in doctor’s offices, ambulatory surgical centers or hospitals. 

Florida’s abortion statistics currently do not mirror what other states report to the Center for Disease Control because Florida’s reporting forms do not include the information for all the categories of the CDC reporting.  This bill will give the Department of Health the authority to update Florida’s reporting form.

HB 1223 will be heard in Council on Healthy Communities on Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at 8:00 am.  If your State Representative is a member of this council, please contact them and ask them to vote YES on HB 1223.   Please contact:
