Passage means greater protection for the health and safety of women

BACKGROUND:  For women who make the choice of abortion, this bill will protect their health and raise the level of safety to that of other comparable surgical procedures. The State of Florida provides women a different standard of care for abortion than for comparable types of surgical procedures in doctor’s offices, ambulatory surgical centers or hospitals.

Florida's requirements for collecting abortion statistics are minimal. This bill gives the Department of Health the authority to update Florida's reporting form and allow Florida to be included in detailed reporting by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
