STATEMENT ON
THE CELEBRATION OF LIFE RALLEY
IN TALLAHASSEE

April 17, 1990

We join with Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy in his greetings to the Tallahassee Celebration of Life Rally on April 17, 1990, and in his expressions of commitment and support. We are in Brooklyn today for ceremonies preparing to install our brother Bishop Thomas V. Daily as Bishop of the Diocese of Brooklyn, and therefore are unable to be with you physically, but we are with you spiritually in every way.

There are many issues that face society today, very important issues. As we said in our Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities:

Among these issues, abortion necessarily plays a central role. Abortion's direct attack on innocent human life is precisely the kind of violent act that can never be justified. Because victims of abortion are the most vulnerable and defenseless members of the human family, it is imperative that we, as Christians called to serve the least among us, give urgent attention and priority to this issue of justice. (Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities: A Reaffirmation, National Conference of Catholic Bishops, November 14, 1985)

All human life is precious to almighty God, and especially that of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters, the unborn children. You, the Florida Right to Life Committee, and all of the groups involved in this Celebration of Life Rally, have our wholehearted support in defense of human life at all of its stages, from conception until natural death.

God bless each and every one of you in your work.
