Tallahassee, FL -- The
Governor, Cabinet, the Legislature, State Justices, Judges, Attorneys, Law School Faculty
and Students are invited to attend the XXV Annual Red Mass, the Votive Mass of
the Holy Spirit, to be celebrated at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More on
Tennessee Street near the Florida State University campus on March 6, 2000 at 6:00 p.m.
This seven-hundred
year old custom dates back to England and France during the 12th and 13th century when
law-makers at all levels of the Judiciary joined in common prayer at the beginning of the
legislative session to pray for Divine Guidance on decisions affecting legislation during
the session.
At this time in Florida's history with so much at stake effecting
human life and human dignity, it seems appropriate to devote some special time to pray for
Divine Guidance.
Reverend J. Bryan Hehir, Professor of the Practice in Religion
and Society and Dean of the Harvard Divinity School, will deliver the homily on The
Consistent Ethic of Life: Challenges and Questions.
A Reception will
follow the service. All are invited.
