Tallahassee :  The Catholic Bishops issued a statement today recalling the 29th Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.  Marking the anniversary with regret, the Bishops expressed their sadness at the continuing assault on innocent, unborn children.  They also found particularly disconcerting the continuing rise in abortions in Florida, to more than 88,000 in the year 2000, while abortions are becoming less prevalent across the country.

In the statement, the Bishops lament the position of public officials who support the abortion culture by their refusal to “bring personal moral convictions to bear” . . .  They commend those who have chosen life for their unborn children and celebrate God’s healing action in the lives of those hurt by abortion.

Pledging their continued support, the Bishops laud the faithful efforts of priests and gratefully honor lay leaders who promote the message of respect for all life.
